Penis Size is not the Measure of a Man

Penis size is not the measure of a man.

There is a conversation about men that we need to have, and more importantly, a conversation that men need to have with themselves.

For years, men have been subjected to an extraordinary amount of psychological pressure by society about what it means to be "a man."

You must be strong.

You must be muscular.

You must be sexually dominant.

You must have a large penis.

You must last long.

You must have multiple women.

You must never cry.

You must never appear weak.

You must always know what to do.

You must lead.

You must win.

And, above all, you must prove your manhood to other men.

Masculinity, somewhere along the line, stopped being something a man simply IS and became something he is expected to constantly PERFORM.

And nowhere is this more obvious than in conversations about sex. It's like...a penis size Olympics.

Men compare penis sizes.

They boast about them.

They joke about them.

They exaggerate them.

And some men quietly shrink into themselves because they believe theirs is not "big enough."

But big enough for whom?

A significant amount of the anxiety surrounding penis size is not necessarily coming from women's actual sexual expectations. It is coming from men comparing themselves with other men, often through pornography, locker-room conversations, social media, jokes and unrealistic cultural narratives about what sexual "performance" is supposed to look like.

The same thing happens with how long a man is expected to last.

A man can have a perfectly normal sexual experience and still feel inadequate because he has internalised the idea that a "real man" should be able to perform for an extraordinarily long time.

👉 The man is no longer having sex with his partner - he is performing for an imaginary audience of men.

He is thinking:

"Would another man consider me impressive?"

"Would they think I'm man enough?"

"Would they laugh at me?"

"Am I big enough?"

"Did I last long enough?"

That is male validation guised as sexual confidence.

And the irony is that sexual fulfilment is far more complex than a measurement or a stopwatch.

Communication, comfort, emotional connection, attentiveness, mutual desire, knowledge of one's partner, stimulation, trust and the ability to be present with her can matter enormously to the sexual experience.

Yet men have been sold the idea that their penis is a résumé.

📌 I will keep saying this:

Men are often conditioned to impress other men.

Think about how many definitions of masculinity are constructed through male approval.

"Be a man."

"Don't be soft."

"Don't cry."

"Get women."

"Have money."

"Drive this kind of car."

"Build muscles."

"Have a big dick."

"Don't be a simp."

"Never let a woman control you."

"Always dominate."

And who is the audience for all of this? 🤷‍♀️🤷🏾‍♂️

Often, other men.

This is where the patriarchy becomes toxic not only for women, but also for men. Because when masculinity becomes a competition, men are constantly forced to prove that they are sufficiently masculine.

And the goalpost keeps moving. You can never quite arrive.

There will always be another man with bigger muscles.

More money.

A bigger house.

A faster car.

A larger penis.

A more impressive career.

A louder personality.

A more dominant presence.

So the man who has been taught that his worth depends on outperforming other men eventually discovers that there is always someone who can make him feel inadequate.

That is a terrible foundation upon which to build a human being.

And where does the insecurity go? 🤷‍♀️

Because insecurity does not always remain internal.

It becomes misogyny.

It becomes control.

It becomes aggression.

It becomes sexual entitlement.

It becomes manipulation.

It becomes the need to dominate women.

Sometimes a man who feels small internally desperately needs someone else to feel smaller so that he can feel big, and women can become the unfortunate recipients of that unresolved insecurity.

👉A man who has been taught that his worth depends on dominance may interpret equality as disrespect.

👉 A man who has been taught that vulnerability is weakness may respond to emotional intimacy with emotional withdrawal.

👉 A man who has been taught that women exist to validate his masculinity may become resentful when a woman refuses to validate him.

👉 A man who feels inadequate may attempt to establish superiority somewhere else.

Men are often taught that certain feelings are unacceptable for men.

Fear becomes weakness.
Sadness becomes weakness.
Tenderness becomes weakness.
Vulnerability becomes weakness.
Asking for help becomes weakness.
Crying becomes weakness.

Who set the standard?
Patriarchy.
Men.

These emotions do not disappear; they simply find other outlets.

- Anger becomes the socially acceptable emotion.

- Silence becomes communication.

- Withdrawal becomes coping.

- Substance abuse becomes escape.

- Aggression becomes expression.

And sometimes, terribly, hopelessness becomes suicide.

This is why conversations about men's mental and emotional wellbeing cannot be dismissed as attacks on masculinity.

We need men who are emotionally healthy, not merely emotionally suppressed.

We need men who can say,

"I am afraid."
"I don't know what to do."
"I need help."
"I was wrong."
"I love you."
"I am sorry."
"I am overwhelmed."

None of these statements makes a man less of a man.

They make him human.

👉 Muscles don't make you a man.

👉 Emotional intelligence does not make you less of a man.

👉 Faithfulness to your partner does not make you a simp.

👉 Penis size does not make you a man.

👉 The number of women you have slept with does not make you a man.

👉 How aggressively you respond to discomfort or disrespect does not make you a man.

👉 How many people fear you does not make you a man.

👉 Your ability to suppress tears does not make you a man.

❗You are born male, and that is your biological sex.

But the kind of man you become is built through your values, choices, character and conduct.

Be intentional.
Be sincere.
Be perceptive.
Take responsibility.
Render service.
Take initiative.
Keep your word.
Love without manipulating.
Be faithful without needing applause.
Communicate.
Listen.
Learn.
Apologise.
Grow.
Feel.
Be genuine.

These things do not diminish masculinity.
They give it substance.

Men NEED liberation from the ridiculous standards they have been taught to live under.

The media,

Friend groups,

"Bro culture",

Pornography,

Families,

Schools,

And yes, even religious institutions have all played a role in teaching and reinforcing these standards.

Every institution that teaches boys that masculinity is synonymous with dominance, sexual conquest, emotional suppression, or unquestioned authority contributes to the problem.

👉 We need to raise boys who understand that strength is not the absence of vulnerability.

👉 We need men who understand that confidence does not require humiliation of others.

👉 We need men who can experience rejection without turning it into hatred.

Men who can love women without needing to control them.

Men who can respect other men without competing with them.

Men who can seek help without feeling emasculated.

Men who can have a healthy sexual relationship without turning sex into a performance examination.

And men who understand that their worth does not depend on winning an imaginary competition against every other man.

The goal should not be to become "more masculine"; rather, to become better human beings. Because the world does not need men who are merely bigger, louder, richer, harder or more sexually "impressive."

It needs men who are useful, valuable and meaningful.

And perhaps most importantly:

Men who know that they do not have to constantly prove that they are men.

You were never supposed to spend your entire life auditioning for manhood.

Build character instead.

That will outlast the muscles.
The money.
The "sexual conquests".
The measurements.
The applause.
And the approval of other men.

Penis size is not the measure of a man.
